Having a Crush on Crushed Velvet
black velvet dress the style sauce azalea SF

On my last post I wrote about silk and today it's all about velvet. Can you tell I'm majorly into fabrics? Maybe it's from my short stint in interior design, but I'm crazy over them. The first thing I do when I buy something is walk up and touch it , move it, play with it, see how it drapes, see how it moves, see how soft it will be, see how the light catches it, I mean this is really an obsession (clearly).  To me, this is the reason to buy or wear more expensive things. It's all about the quality of the fabric and how that fabric is sewn and meant to lay. Before I get too off-topic, this is why fabrics are to me the building blocks of ANY great wardrobe. Anybody who's ever been in an amazing fabric store will certainly confirm this- OH THE POSSIBILITIES!!!!! It's like heaven for anyone creative (aka me.)

Maybe you're not as much of a fashion geek/ obsessed as I am, but you still need to know about velvet right now. It's in every store anywhere and a major trend at least until Spring 2016, ha. What doesn't look good wrapped in velvet (especially during the Holidays?!) It'll take any shoe from basic to luxe, and give that mini skirt a little extra va-va-voom. Check out below some of my favorite velvet picks for the season and let me know how you're wearing it this year! Headband? key chain? I mean the list is a mile long, right?

In this post I'm wearing a midi - length black crushed velvet dress from Azalea SF. I love the slit on the side which is really flattering. It's a great number to dress up with jewelry and a heel for a Holiday party or put a sweater over with a bootie for any day this Fall and Winter.

Rose Quartz

Pantone's colors for 2016, Serenity and Rose Quartz are everywhere right now, and I've certainly found my favorite in Rose Quartz. Whether it's hats, dresses, or bags (like the one I've featured here from Flat Iron) I just keep reaching for the color pink! Pink is always tricky to wear, it can look much too frilly or gaudy if not styled correctly. I find that I usually like to anchor pink with black, or a dark grey. (I did this also in a post from last year, Think Pink.) It's a great way to have masculine and feminine colors meet each other. Think James Dean meets Barbie, ha! For this outfit I also am sporting my new favorite Page boy hat that I can't help but wear all of the time. While I still love my fedoras, it's a fresh silhouette of hat that has open a whole new realm of possibilities of outfits. I love the unexpected edge it gives even a t-shirt and jeans look.

I also find it looks great with a turtleneck or mock neck a la Kate Moss (below)

...Or as I've styled it in these photos here! For this series, I also did an alternate version with no hat and a pair of lace up heels I've been living in since I got them on sale at Nordstrom.

For the shoot, I met with Jasmine Ayala in Beverly Hills. She did an amazing job of capturing the gorgeous aesthetic of the Rodeo Drive area at twilight. Of course, I couldn't resist doing some shopping while we were there too! Let me know what you think of the look, and tell me how you're wearing Rose Quartz this year, too!
