Silk Blouses for Fall
the style sauce street style fashion blog silk blouse fall fashion 2016

Classic staples like the silk blouse are hardly going anywhere. I have some in my closet that I've had for years that I can still break out from time to time. While you can wear silk almost any time of year, long sleeved silk blouses I usually reserve for the Fall and Winter. There's another reason for this- silk is the perfect decadent pairing to velvet or cashmere, and these fabrics almost always resurface in collections for the cooler months. ESPECIALLY velvet this year guys, it's like the darling of F/W fashion for 2016. Every editor as made it THE "it" thing. While I don't wear something because someone tells me to, ever, I'd have to agree that it goes really well with all of the trends that are big this year. More on that later.

Anyways, back to silk. There are few fabrics I love to wear more than silk. I think silk and cashmere are pretty much just the best things in life and I should probably live in New York where I can wear them more (any excuse to move to New York, ha..... )  That being said, this season I plan on wearing lots of silk, especially by way of tops. Pictured here I'm wearing this beautiful, and actually really affordable lavender silk top with equally beautiful sleeves and detailing from Topshop. I've paired it with black accordion culottes also from Topshop. I topped (no pun intended) the outfit off with my new favorite basics, mules from Roberto Deville, a small French designer with well-made leather goods. Find those here.

Check out the look featured here and let me know what you think. I plan on wearing something like this for the next few months until I can finally wear some heavy jackets and full length pants! Shop some of my favorite silk blouse selections below, as well as this full look.

Stay saucy.

I Love L.A. : A day in Silverlake
_MG_2565.jpg

Today I'm super excited to announce my newest column I've so appropriately called, "I Love L.A". Here's the deal: I've lived in Los Angeles for 10 years, and in that amount of time I've seen so much change about L.A., and also discovered some really cool sh*t, be that fashion, restaurants, music, events, whatever. I really wanted to start this topic of conversation on my blog because I feel like Los Angeles is really special, and there's a lot to talk about when it comes to the City of Angels that I want to share with all of you.

In the past year, there's been a huge shift in the fashion industry, with everyone from Tom Ford to Saint Laurent doing shows here. There's no question it promises to just get bigger and better. Besides the emerging fashion scene, one can't talk about L.A. without mentioning the restaurants, shopping, beaches, artists, music, and all around kick ass-ness of this city. Really looking forward to sharing with you guys some of my gems and discovering new ones along the way.

Now, back to today's post! To begin, we're kicking off in Silverlake. As you all know I'm a die hard Venetian, but when it comes to the East Side of Los Angeles, it's hard to find a pocket that's cuter than Silverlake. Some of it's charms include some of the most adorable tree lined streets in all of the city, and some of the best design shops and boutiques on the West Coast.

La Mill coffee Silverlake The Style Sauce

To kick off the day we ventured to La Mill coffee- an L.A. staple for the past 19 years. For a coffee addict like me, this is THE SPOT to go to, given it has an extensive coffee menu and an equally delicious brunch menu to match. I opted for the healthy route- broccolini with poached eggs and a side of rosemary/parmesan breakfast potatoes, while my brunch partner, Brian, went for the Belgian waffles which he definitely did NOT regret. Both were equally good, and I'd recommend trying either option.

Our server at La Mill, Soren, was so nice and knowledgeable about everything while eating there! He had a thing or two to teach even the biggest coffee snob (me). Definitely ask for him next time you pop in for a bite or cappucino.

Obviously, we had to snap a couple of outfit photos while we were in town! Here I'm wearing a pair of self-made DIY fringed Levi's, vintage Malesherbes Louis Vuitton bag, white Kit + Ace washable silk kimono, Zara top (last spring), Sam Edelman "Trixie" buckle sandals, and my favorite neck tie du jour- a white bandana I bought for 5 bucks in Palm Springs.

Rose Quartz
fashion blog the style sauce rose quartz 1

Pantone's colors for 2016, Serenity and Rose Quartz are everywhere right now, and I've certainly found my favorite in Rose Quartz. Whether it's hats, dresses, or bags (like the one I've featured here from Flat Iron) I just keep reaching for the color pink! Pink is always tricky to wear, it can look much too frilly or gaudy if not styled correctly. I find that I usually like to anchor pink with black, or a dark grey. (I did this also in a post from last year, Think Pink.) It's a great way to have masculine and feminine colors meet each other. Think James Dean meets Barbie, ha! For this outfit I also am sporting my new favorite Page boy hat that I can't help but wear all of the time. While I still love my fedoras, it's a fresh silhouette of hat that has open a whole new realm of possibilities of outfits. I love the unexpected edge it gives even a t-shirt and jeans look.

I also find it looks great with a turtleneck or mock neck a la Kate Moss (below)

...Or as I've styled it in these photos here! For this series, I also did an alternate version with no hat and a pair of lace up heels I've been living in since I got them on sale at Nordstrom.

For the shoot, I met with Jasmine Ayala in Beverly Hills. She did an amazing job of capturing the gorgeous aesthetic of the Rodeo Drive area at twilight. Of course, I couldn't resist doing some shopping while we were there too! Let me know what you think of the look, and tell me how you're wearing Rose Quartz this year, too!
