Welp it’s February. Which means it’s almost that time again. That’s right friends, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. Whether you’re a big fan of the holiday or nottt so much, I think we can all agree it can be fun to get in the mood and dress to celebrate. Whether you’re spending the day of love by hanging with your girlfriends, have date night with your boo, or going to see a show with a new friend, I’ve rounded up some of my favorite options for the occasion.

As for the look I’m wearing in today: This dress is maybe one of my favorite I’ve ever owned. It’s so flattering and I love the polka dots and ruching on the front. It’s from C/MEO Collective via Fashion BNKR and you can find this LRN (little red number) here! Vices Short Sleeve dress. Sunglasses are the Ashtray from Raen, shoes are the Hope heels from Naturalizer.

Yeahhhh it’s the holidays, but black is back. LOL jk actually it never left (obvi) and it never will. It’s a fashion staple that stands the test of time no matter what era it is. I myself pretty much live for an-all black moment. It’s definitely my go-to when I can’t really figure out what to wear, but sometimes you can totally start to feel a little bored with it. That said, here’s a few ways that will help spice up an all black outfit that will take your next monochromatic look to the next level you really need in your fashion life.

1) Add white accessories

As seen here friends, there’s nothing like wearing all black and then popping a white shoe or pair of sunnies on to bring some life to the outfit (or be like me and do both :P) The whole thing is very 60’s and if you’ve been reading my blog for even a week, you know how much I love a vintage inspired look!

2) Mixed Media

Ok this is actually an art term, but what I mean is mix the textures of the fabrics to make it more interesting to the eye. Think a black cashmere sweater with a black sequined skirt, or a black faux fur jacket with a black leather skirt. The difference of textures looks different to the eye and tends to be more interesting than just wearing all the same fabric. Here I’m wearing faux leather leggings with a sweater that has feathered fringe and you can see the movement of the fabrics and the lines between where the sweater stops and the leggings begin.

3) Add a red lip

I think this is actually my favorite thing to do when I’m wearing all black. There’s nothing like a little pop of color on your face against an all black look, and it really can bring to life your outfit. It brings the focus away from your clothes and to your beautiful face! I generally prefer a more matte red lip or maybe semi-sheer vs a high gloss, shop some of my faves below.

4) Play with hemlines

Try playing with different lengths of the black clothes you’re wearing for your OOTD - like a long jacket over a short skirt, a cropped shirt with high waisted black denim, or a mid-calf boot with a flowy midi skirt.

Shop The Look

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of attending Her Conference in New York City with Jones New York. If you're not familiar, The Her Conference is intended to help young Gen- Z women who are in college or recently graduated to network, jump-start their careers and generally prepare to take the world by storm. While I've been out of college for a while now (sadly), I loved being there hearing from the panelists and enjoying the day's events. It was a great trip, and I loved connecting with so many ladies that are killing it in the fashion, tech, advertising, and blog industries. We had the opportunity to hear from the likes of editors, execs at Instagram, and female business owners. 

To top it off, they had a lot of great sponsors with different booths for guests to enjoy. I had the pleasure of being there with Jones New York, who I've been a long time fan of their modern, but practical clothing. It was perfect that they were sponsoring this event because their stuff is killer for girls who are just graduating, taking their first internships, or job hunting!
