How to Make (Baby) Pink Your Favorite Color This Winter
The Style Sauce Favorite Pink Blog Post

When you think of winter wear pink doesn't usually come to mind, does it? It seems like red's more low-key cousin usually pops up alongside resort wear in the Spring and Summer, but here's 5 ways to incorporate everyone's favorite feminine color into your life in the chicest way during these cooler months. Major perk? You don't have to ditch the color come Spring and Summer, so some of these are classics for all year round.

1) Pick a muted tone. If there's anything to remember when reaching for pink this year it's that muted is much better. Hot pink is a totally different world, but if you opt for a nude, baby pink, or blush, it's a much easier incorporate into your every day wardrobe.

2) Wear it in a floral or print.

Florals are everywhere, even in the Fall. Find pink in an embroidered bomber this season or in a silk blouse for a little boom.

3) Opt for a pop of pink in your home.

Not ready to wear pink? Maybe you'll be willing to decorate with it. Pink couches might be my favorite thing, but if you can't commit to that try a candle, pillows, or a piece of art to warm up your space.

4) Choose an accessory.

A pink backpack, scarf, shoe, or pair of sunnies is a great way to wear pink without doing it head to toe. A blush heel would look cute with any little black dress, or a pink backpack goes great with jeans and a tee.

5) As outerwear:

A baby pink jacket is oh so chic. Opt for a wool trench or pink sweater for a warm way to wear this soft and feminine tone all year round.  If you like the one I'm wearing in this post from Azalea SF, check it out here.

Having a Crush on Crushed Velvet

On my last post I wrote about silk and today it's all about velvet. Can you tell I'm majorly into fabrics? Maybe it's from my short stint in interior design, but I'm crazy over them. The first thing I do when I buy something is walk up and touch it , move it, play with it, see how it drapes, see how it moves, see how soft it will be, see how the light catches it, I mean this is really an obsession (clearly).  To me, this is the reason to buy or wear more expensive things. It's all about the quality of the fabric and how that fabric is sewn and meant to lay. Before I get too off-topic, this is why fabrics are to me the building blocks of ANY great wardrobe. Anybody who's ever been in an amazing fabric store will certainly confirm this- OH THE POSSIBILITIES!!!!! It's like heaven for anyone creative (aka me.)

Maybe you're not as much of a fashion geek/ obsessed as I am, but you still need to know about velvet right now. It's in every store anywhere and a major trend at least until Spring 2016, ha. What doesn't look good wrapped in velvet (especially during the Holidays?!) It'll take any shoe from basic to luxe, and give that mini skirt a little extra va-va-voom. Check out below some of my favorite velvet picks for the season and let me know how you're wearing it this year! Headband? key chain? I mean the list is a mile long, right?

In this post I'm wearing a midi - length black crushed velvet dress from Azalea SF. I love the slit on the side which is really flattering. It's a great number to dress up with jewelry and a heel for a Holiday party or put a sweater over with a bootie for any day this Fall and Winter.

Palm Springs Diary: August 2016
the style sauce palm desert fashion blog free people

Palm Springs is always one of my favorite places. I love getting away to the desert for no reason at all to unwind and get some sun. I usually avoid the desert in the Summer because of the beating heat, but my sister has never been there so we decided to go for a weekend a couple weeks back.

I stayed at The Ace Hotel and Swim Club , like almost always, which is great for just relaxing. It was nice to shoot some pics, sip on cocktails, swim, and bask in the 108 degree rays.

What to wear in the desert? Well, when it's this hot, the answer is not much. It was mostly bikinis and minimal dresses/ skirt and top combos that won't stick to you. At night temperatures dip but it's still 90 so need for any heavy layers or anything, ha. Whatever isn't fussy or  does not require too much thought is usually the best.

Shop some of my favorites looks below for a weekend in the desert!

Since I've been traveling, like, a TON, one of my favorite essential is these Sudio Wireless Headphones - the Iphone 7 came out today and as all of you know, it does NOT have a headphone jack. Fortunately, these beautifully designed Swedish earbuds from Sudio are bluetooth only and come with a great leather pouch to match . They're only around $110 dollars  - but you can shop them with code THESTYLESAUCE for 15% off. I have the Vasa Bla model and LOVE them- the quality is excellent and I love how pretty they look in my ears. They've been great travel companions.

What are some of your favorite things to do and places to stay when in Palm Springs? Would love to hear your recommendations for next time I decide to visit the desert.
