There's a reason there's so many songs written about it. Fall in New York is indescribable. I already knew New York was my favorite city, but this time around being there during October really made me fall in love (no pun intended ;)) I'm not sure if it's the incredible food and coffee, the briskness in the air, the orange and yellow leaves, football and baseball on TV, or a combination of all of these things, but New York is absolutely amazing in Autumn. When we took the photos in this post I had literally walked all over the city- roughly 10 miles- exploring different burroughs by foot. While downtown Soho/ Tribeca/ Nolita area is my favorite, we ended our day in Central Park after walking up the High Line (definitely something all visitors to NYC should do!). Us Southern Californians have a shortage of leaves changing color and it was worth the trip up town to see.  By the end of the day I was physically exhausted but mentally exhilarated, an affect that this city just always seems to have on you. Actually, I am so stricken and in love with New York that I plan to move there within the next year, so that's something I'm really looking forward to! 

As for what I'm wearing in this post, when I was preparing myself for a day turned to night in New York, layers were the answer. It was pretty mild during the day but got cool at night. I had flat boots on to walk the city but changed into the heeled Sam Edelman ones you see here to meet friends for drinks that evening. It's the kind of thing that's very Uptown meets Downtown depending on the shoe you have on and maybe the amount of eyeliner, ha. Also, this cape/poncho/whateveryouwanttocallit- it's from last Fall, but such a classic and I'm still seeing them all over for this year's shopping. I love feeling like I can wear pieces like this year after year and still be fashion forward and put together. It's a great feeling when you don't have to throw away a favorite from last year, isn't it? I'm putting some similar ones in the shop gallery below if any of you are looking for something similar to purchase now. I'd highly recommend a piece like this especially in a tartan or plaid which is so timeless and classic.

Today is our birthday!!!

Yes, we are officially 1. Is it weird that it feels like my own personal birthday? I can't believe how much I have poured into this blog- sometimes to the point of total insanity. If I could tell you how much time, energy, money, thought, etc running this thing requires I would, but even I can't start to count it all up. That being said I really love this damn thing and I'm so excited and proud to say we've made it to a year old. It's been an incredible experience to learn so much about blogging, building a website, SEO, product placement, PR, marketing, keyword searches, Pinterest, Instagram, photo filters, and that's just the beginning!  It's all enough to make a girl's head spin off. Looking back on starting this blog I had NO IDEA how hard it was going to be or how much work it required, but I'm 100% glad I have stuck it out and kept it going! It's been such a great learning experience and I've also undeniably had so much fun. If you are thinking about starting a blog whether it be about fashion, food, music, travel, WHATEVER it is you're interested in, DO IT!! I had zero experience, this was my first adventure in blogging, so if I can do it so can you :)

I also couldn't have done it without the help of my two amazing photographers Brian Gove and Michele Andersen so huge thanks to them for sticking it out with me. Thank you for being here for the ride and for always supporting us! 

Anyways--- To commemorate our day of birth I'm counting down 5 of my favorite looks from the past year. It was really fun going through all these posts and remembering all that went into each one. It was actually really difficult to only pick 5-- It's truly been an amazing year and thank YOU for reading my blog right from the beginning (and all the new readers too!) I love all of the feedback I've received and I'm truly grateful.

#1 is..... Festival fashion!! No surprise here... Music and fashion go hand in hand for me and it's always a debate which one I love more- which is why I've started incorporating music into ALL my posts! This post has been to date the nearest and dearest to my heart with also the most writing and personal stories incorporated. As it's mid way through summer, I'm sure you all have already seen it everywhere already. Being dubbed "the skirt of the season", the front button up mini (and midi) has been featured in almost every fashion publication I read. I actually styled a suede H & M version on a model for an editiorial shoot a while back, but,  with denim definitely being my forte, I absolutely love this version I'm wearing from Zara. While right now it's definitely too hot during the day for a sweater, I love a pop of color and this oversized Equipment cashmere pullover does just the trick. You guys- I can't forget these shoes! When I saw them I knew I had to have them. I love the little adorable flowers that adorn these Pradas and they are so retro-chic. I paired the whole look together with the Louis Vuitton bag that I scored off Tradesy a month or so ago. Hope you like this look! How are you all wearing your "skirt of the season" ?
