District La Brea x The Style Sauce

Over the past 10 years I've seen SO many changes happen to L.A. One of the biggest ones is the La Brea shopping district. In the past 5 years or so they've taken a once desolate street populated with random Persian rug shops and the occasional antiques store and made it into a serious shopping and dining destination. Some of my favorite shops and eateries can now be found in this area of Hollywood which is amazing! Going to District La Brea and shooting this post was such a fun day because it was actually just taking you along a normal day I would have in Hollywood.

My outfit of the day was slightly Parisian with a rocker twist. I found this Chanel vintage boutique worker's shirt at a thrift shop. The skirt I'm wearing is from ShopWantList which is an online boutique that features only black, white, and grey gradient clothes. I was really drawn to this skirt because of the graphic stripes and the tassles on the bottom of it that move with me while I walk. They have a bunch of great stuff at a really affordable price point so definitely check their shop out here. My jacket is by Cameo the label, bag vintage Coach, and shoes Dolce Vita (last season but I'll put similar ones in the shop gallery).

Our first stop was for lunch at The Sycamore Kitchen, which has incredible food. I don't often talk about eats on here but it's a big deal for me. I'm a HUGE foodie and this spot definitely has my stamp of approval. Being a coffee addict, it's also a big plus that they stock Stumptown cold brew (my favorite- try the nitro tap if you ever get a chance). For lunch I had the Mediterranean salad which has blue cheese, dates, hazelnuts, and kale. SO GOOD you guys. Brian, who shot the lovely pictures for this post, decided on The Fried Egg Tartine which was also incredible. Fried eggs, arugula, pesto, and avocado are things I will NEVER turn down. We washed it down with some Stumptown coffee and were amped for the day's shopping adventures.

My first stop for shopping landed us at Garrett Leight. To be honest I had never tried on his sunglasses before this day and I was blown away how all of the frames fit my face so well. Being the son of the creator of Oliver People's (one of my other favorite sunglass lines), he has good sunglass genes you could say. I love that all the frames have a throw back vintage feel and it's a Venice Beach brand (like me!)

For clothes and other accessories I headed for Steven Alan which really nails the whole minimalism chic meets luxe materials thing. Mansur Gavriel is one of my favorite handbag lines, and they frequently procure their coveted purse collection as well as carry other modern designers like Building Block. While I was there I tried on their own label's Dunham Motorcycle jacket and simultaneously fell in love with it. It's the kind of boyish jacket that I love to wear over a silk dress or with jeans when I'm feeling more cool girl.

We ended the day at A+R Design, which is the kind of store I always wind up in. I used to frequent their location on Abbot Kinney, but now they're just focused on La Brea. Working briefly in interior design, home decor is something that I take seriously. This place has one of the best collections of European designers and stuff you just don't usually find on the beaten path. Some favorites include their Edward Wohl bird's eye maple cutting boards (I bought one), these copper bar stools (that I really want for my kitchen), and this clock I've been coveting since I saw it 3 years ago whilst eating dinnner at Capo in Santa Monica. That's just the tip of the ice berg. They really have some cool stuff in this store.

We're 1! #happybirthdaytothess

Today is our birthday!!!

Yes, we are officially 1. Is it weird that it feels like my own personal birthday? I can't believe how much I have poured into this blog- sometimes to the point of total insanity. If I could tell you how much time, energy, money, thought, etc running this thing requires I would, but even I can't start to count it all up. That being said I really love this damn thing and I'm so excited and proud to say we've made it to a year old. It's been an incredible experience to learn so much about blogging, building a website, SEO, product placement, PR, marketing, keyword searches, Pinterest, Instagram, photo filters, and that's just the beginning!  It's all enough to make a girl's head spin off. Looking back on starting this blog I had NO IDEA how hard it was going to be or how much work it required, but I'm 100% glad I have stuck it out and kept it going! It's been such a great learning experience and I've also undeniably had so much fun. If you are thinking about starting a blog whether it be about fashion, food, music, travel, WHATEVER it is you're interested in, DO IT!! I had zero experience, this was my first adventure in blogging, so if I can do it so can you :)

I also couldn't have done it without the help of my two amazing photographers Brian Gove and Michele Andersen so huge thanks to them for sticking it out with me. Thank you for being here for the ride and for always supporting us!

Anyways--- To commemorate our day of birth I'm counting down 5 of my favorite looks from the past year. It was really fun going through all these posts and remembering all that went into each one. It was actually really difficult to only pick 5-- It's truly been an amazing year and thank YOU for reading my blog right from the beginning (and all the new readers too!) I love all of the feedback I've received and I'm truly grateful.

The Top 5: 2014-2015

#5: Welcome to The Style Sauce

#5's look is from our very first post! Here wearing a Re:Named maxi dress purchased from Princepessa boutique on Abbot Kinney. Full post here.

#4: Black Tie

#4 is the Monique Lhuillier dress I wore for Jenny Bernheim of Margo and Me's engagement party. Such a STUNNING dress! I don't always get such a chance to dress up, and it was truly a night to remember. Many congrats to her and Freddy on their wedding this past weekend. Full post on this dress and their engagement party here

#3: Fall for White

fall for white

#3 is this all white/neutral look. It was exceptionally hot despite being November in LA when I blogged this look. I like breaking the rules-- like white after labor day :) You may have seen this look on OOTD Magazine or as featured by Sam Edelman as a #samsgirl as well. Full post here.

#2: Think Pink

#2-- If there's anything I love it's fashion for good, and it's been a mission of mine since the beginning to try as much as possible to buy clothes that give back and/or are ethically sourced. This post was for Breast Cancer awareness in October. Full post is here.

#1: Festival Fashion

festival fashion 1

#1 is..... Festival fashion!! No surprise here... Music and fashion go hand in hand for me and it's always a debate which one I love more- which is why I've started incorporating music into ALL my posts! This post has been to date the nearest and dearest to my heart with also the most writing and personal stories incorporated. Relive Festival Fashion (and it's kick ass playlist) in all it's glory here.

That's about it for our birthday post! Tonight we are celebrating turning 1,  AND the opening of a new restaurant in Santa Monica, Red O! Stay tuned to see the gorgeous dress and pictures from the event on the blog and on Instagram in the next week. xo

Skirt of the Season
image.jpg

As it's mid way through summer, I'm sure you all have already seen it everywhere already. Being dubbed "the skirt of the season", the front button up mini (and midi) has been featured in almost every fashion publication I read. I actually styled a suede H & M version on a model for an editiorial shoot a while back, but,  with denim definitely being my forte, I absolutely love this version I'm wearing from Zara. While right now it's definitely too hot during the day for a sweater, I love a pop of color and this oversized Equipment cashmere pullover does just the trick. You guys- I can't forget these shoes! When I saw them I knew I had to have them. I love the little adorable flowers that adorn these Pradas and they are so retro-chic. I paired the whole look together with the Louis Vuitton bag that I scored off Tradesy a month or so ago. Hope you like this look! How are you all wearing your "skirt of the season" ? I'd love to check out your looks too so please post links below and share! Also press play on my summer time vibes playlist! Enjoy it!
