My L.A. Uniform: Chucks and Braids

These Commes Des Garcons Converse Chuck Taylors were a total pain in the butt to order, but I'm happy to say they're now all mine (and just as cute as I had hoped!) Had to pretty much jump through hoops to get these sneakers, but so glad that I waited it out and finally got them, even after a few order mishaps with Nordstrom (we won't get into that... )! They're definitely the perfect shoe for Coachella - comfortable, and I adore the cute little heart on the side that is smile-inducing. Can't wait to wear them to death this summer! I love new shoes always, but there's nothing like a new pair of Chucks, is there?

Clearly not dressed up in this post, but this is pretty much my uniform for a day-to-day L.A. casual look. I have to wear flats or comfortable booties for those days I'm running around or going from one meeting to the next to happy hour. Flannel is always classic so I threw it over this silk sleeveless tunic tank as a layering option, which we always need in California! I find myself wearing jeans all the time lately and this pair is one of my favorites from Genetic. What's your favorite denim brand right now?

Can't forget to mention my hair! I've been living in braids. It's my absolute favorite way for my hair to look cute when I have zero time to style it! What do you think of of the french braid trend? I've literally created a whole Pinterest board about hair and fashion, LOL! I'm obsessed! You can check it out here- I always want to hear new ideas if you have some good ones for chic hair styles!

We're 1! #happybirthdaytothess

Today is our birthday!!!

Yes, we are officially 1. Is it weird that it feels like my own personal birthday? I can't believe how much I have poured into this blog- sometimes to the point of total insanity. If I could tell you how much time, energy, money, thought, etc running this thing requires I would, but even I can't start to count it all up. That being said I really love this damn thing and I'm so excited and proud to say we've made it to a year old. It's been an incredible experience to learn so much about blogging, building a website, SEO, product placement, PR, marketing, keyword searches, Pinterest, Instagram, photo filters, and that's just the beginning!  It's all enough to make a girl's head spin off. Looking back on starting this blog I had NO IDEA how hard it was going to be or how much work it required, but I'm 100% glad I have stuck it out and kept it going! It's been such a great learning experience and I've also undeniably had so much fun. If you are thinking about starting a blog whether it be about fashion, food, music, travel, WHATEVER it is you're interested in, DO IT!! I had zero experience, this was my first adventure in blogging, so if I can do it so can you :)

I also couldn't have done it without the help of my two amazing photographers Brian Gove and Michele Andersen so huge thanks to them for sticking it out with me. Thank you for being here for the ride and for always supporting us!

Anyways--- To commemorate our day of birth I'm counting down 5 of my favorite looks from the past year. It was really fun going through all these posts and remembering all that went into each one. It was actually really difficult to only pick 5-- It's truly been an amazing year and thank YOU for reading my blog right from the beginning (and all the new readers too!) I love all of the feedback I've received and I'm truly grateful.

The Top 5: 2014-2015

#5: Welcome to The Style Sauce

#5's look is from our very first post! Here wearing a Re:Named maxi dress purchased from Princepessa boutique on Abbot Kinney. Full post here.

#4: Black Tie

#4 is the Monique Lhuillier dress I wore for Jenny Bernheim of Margo and Me's engagement party. Such a STUNNING dress! I don't always get such a chance to dress up, and it was truly a night to remember. Many congrats to her and Freddy on their wedding this past weekend. Full post on this dress and their engagement party here

#3: Fall for White

fall for white

#3 is this all white/neutral look. It was exceptionally hot despite being November in LA when I blogged this look. I like breaking the rules-- like white after labor day :) You may have seen this look on OOTD Magazine or as featured by Sam Edelman as a #samsgirl as well. Full post here.

#2: Think Pink

#2-- If there's anything I love it's fashion for good, and it's been a mission of mine since the beginning to try as much as possible to buy clothes that give back and/or are ethically sourced. This post was for Breast Cancer awareness in October. Full post is here.

#1: Festival Fashion

festival fashion 1

#1 is..... Festival fashion!! No surprise here... Music and fashion go hand in hand for me and it's always a debate which one I love more- which is why I've started incorporating music into ALL my posts! This post has been to date the nearest and dearest to my heart with also the most writing and personal stories incorporated. Relive Festival Fashion (and it's kick ass playlist) in all it's glory here.

That's about it for our birthday post! Tonight we are celebrating turning 1,  AND the opening of a new restaurant in Santa Monica, Red O! Stay tuned to see the gorgeous dress and pictures from the event on the blog and on Instagram in the next week. xo

Don't Panic

Don't Panic! Sweater- Marc by Marc Jacobs

Lately there is nothing more I love than a culotte. Even in my post last week for Festival Fashion I was wearing culotte shorts. I mean it's gotten a little out of hand. There's just something so versatile about culottes and I love how they can be dressed up or dressed down and worn for cooler weather or warm weather. For this look I chose black which is obviously the most flattering. I also do love the white and pastel color culottes I've been seeing, although they are definitely harder to pull off- especially for someone who is on the shorter side. I am pretty tall but chose to wear a high platform with these because it gives the pant an extra oomph. I would recommend doing the same for all my shorter sisters out there. There are many different types of shoes that look good with culottes, but in general anything with a platform or with a stacked heel will go great with a pant like this.

For the rest of the look-- I paired a Marc by Marc Jacobs lunchbox-shaped red crossbody for a pop of color and a little funk (it's holographic!). I have my old favorite Rayban clubmasters on that always seem to make their way back into my sunglass rotation. The cropped sweater that says Don't Panic! is from Marc by Marc Jacobs as well. I love it- everyone just chill out and enjoy this little OOTD ;)

Below is my "Don't Panic" playlist for some good vibes. Rationale- Fast Lane is my absolute favorite song of the week. By popular demand -- I'm going to incorporate music in all my posts now :) You guys can follow my music updates and playlists on Spotify (playlist on main page) and Soundcloud.
