Candy Colored Dreams

Well first of all, Happy New Year everyone!!! I'm hoping that everyone had a safe and fun holiday season. I just got back from the East Coast for the past 3 weeks, and it feels amazing to be back in the California sunshine! Today's post is actually really part 2 of our last post, Ice Cream, stemming from my recent obsession with everything color. While generally in the winter we tend to gravitate to darker colors and of course black, I love doing the opposite for an unexpected vibrant splash. Of course, no look is complete without a colorful fur coat or sweater - I've been seeing them literally EVERYWHERE. I wore my favorite Zara booties for both looks- while I love color it's hard to ditch my favorite black booties du jour. Sometimes anchoring a colorful look with black accessories can provide great contrast. (I also did this in our Think Pink post).

For today we have not one but TWO colored looks that Michele Andersen shot for me before we took off for the Holiday! So excited for 2015- we have lots more coming for you I can't wait to share. Shortly we will be launching a newly redesigned homepage, and next week we'll be back to black from NYC, stay tuned.

Kate Micucci for @Midnight

This week I'm shaking things up and doing a spotlight on one of my dear friends- Kate Micucci. Kate is an actress and has recently had a slew of successes including her own show Garfunkel and Oats on IFC, which you can watch full episodes of here. This past week, Kate asked me to style her for her appearance on the show @Midnight with Chris Hardwick. I was honored to help her out and also be a guest on the set of the show and watch the taping. Besides being heavily entertained by Kate and Riki Lindhome (the other half of G & O), Pete Holmes was also a guest on the show and had us in tears. It was also pretty cool to be at the original set/stage for I Love Lucy- lots of film history to be had at the Hollywood Center Studios lot.

Anyways, besides being hilarious and talented Kate is adorable. She's pint sized and petite and always has the best attitude which makes a stylist's life easy. I pulled about 5 dresses for her and eventually she just ended up wearing her own! I tried jewelry and nothing looked quite right. Instead, since Kate is a musician, we used some of her guitars as accessories in lieu of jewelry for the shoot. She wore her own Forever 21 dress with no jewelry to the taping and looked fantastic. The point of this post is that being a beautiful person can be your best accessory - you don't always need expensive clothes to look great. Sometimes a simple dress in a flattering color is enough. I've always believed you need to feel comfortable in what you're wearing. Whether it's a ball gown or sweats, what makes you feel at ease almost always looks the best. Not to sound cheesy- but you're never fully dressed without a smile :) and to that I'll share with you the photos Brian Gove took of Kate after the show taping. Thank you Kate for having me and I looking forward to dressing you in the future!

Welcome back! With Labor Day being just a few weeks away (summer it's always sad to see you go), I've dedicated this post to one of my favorite color combos- Red, White, and Blue (obviously). Looking for a little style inspo for a long weekend full of barbeques, wine, and maybe even some boating? Look no further. Here are a couple of looks to take you from the beach to a back yard party in no time. With both looks I am wearing flats but to go from casual day-party to night-party just add some booties or a chic wedge sandal! The blazer and/or sweater is also great to keep you warm when the sun sets and it gets a little chilly.

These skinny crops I have been living in-literally. I've had to make a conscious effort to not wear them everyday as they are so comfortable but cute! They are the perfect option to wear with a look like this or they can be dressed up with a heel or booties.

On a final and more serious note, the world lost a great artist and creative genius yesterday. As a fellow native Northern Californian who grew up watching his films I was deeply saddened to hear of this news yesterday. Whether it's fashion or film, all arts are intrinsically linked and the artistic community is at a deep loss without him. With that I leave you with this photo of Robin Williams, rest in peace my friend.
