Two-Ways Tuesdays: The Checkered Blazer
Women's street style // mixing patterns // The Style Sauce blog

Hi! Welcome back.

So I’m introducing a new thing to this blog called “Two Ways Tuesdays”. This is basically going to be a blog series where I take ONE piece and style it TWO ways. The reason I wanted to do this is because I see a lot of bloggers always wearing different things and never wearing the same thing twice, and I believe it’s not only impractical but it also leads to another even scarier reality and that is mass consumerism and waste. I myself have been struggling with having such a large amount of clothing that I have to give it away, donate it, or sell it at such a fast pace that sometimes it starts to give me anxiety. Not only that but never wearing the same thing twice is expensive and irresponsible to the environment. Did you know that the fashion industry is the #2 cause of pollution on this planet next to only fossil fuels? Gross. Instead of being a part of the problem, I’d love to empower us all to actually reuse and rewear the things that we love starting with today. This is such a large conversation that I’ve been meaning to share more on here, but we’ll start with this series to at least showcase ways to wear things more than once. The checkered blazer is actually a piece you can wear 20 ways, but for the sake of longevity of blog posts I’ll be keeping it to two, lol!

One way I’m styling this is with a corduroy mini skirt, sock boots, a cropped black turtleneck sweater, and oversized sunglasses! You all have shown so much love about this look on Instagram, but it really is such a great look for any days you need to look pulled together this Fall. If you live in cooler weather, you could easily add tights under the mini skirt as well.

Now for look # 2. The second way I’ve styled this blazer (as you can see) is with ripped denim jeans, a printed cropped blouse, a printed head scarf, and combat boots. Both ways are definitely Fall approved and entirely different from one another. I love how I’ve mixed the prints in option two and how it incorporates denim and combat boots which are practical for Fall weather in most parts of the world! While I can think of 100’s of other ways to wear this checkered blazer, these two are a great start to incorporating a plaid blazer into your fall wardrobe.

Her Conference with Jones New York
Her Conference NYC 2018 // The Style Sauce blog

A few weeks back I had the pleasure of attending Her Conference in New York City with Jones New York. If you're not familiar, The Her Conference is intended to help young Gen- Z women who are in college or recently graduated to network, jump-start their careers and generally prepare to take the world by storm. While I've been out of college for a while now (sadly), I loved being there hearing from the panelists and enjoying the day's events. It was a great trip, and I loved connecting with so many ladies that are killing it in the fashion, tech, advertising, and blog industries. We had the opportunity to hear from the likes of editors, execs at Instagram, and female business owners.

To top it off, they had a lot of great sponsors with different booths for guests to enjoy. I had the pleasure of being there with Jones New York, who I've been a long time fan of their modern, but practical clothing. It was perfect that they were sponsoring this event because their stuff is killer for girls who are just graduating, taking their first internships, or job hunting!

They make a lot of affordable pieces for every day life, too. In this blog I styled their romance tie sleeve blouse with a pair of jeans, white booties, and a sailor cap for a look that's great for running around town and is perfect for this transitional summer-to-fall time of year. Check out how I styled it together below.

Thanks for having me at the conference Her Campus and Jones New York! Always a pleasure to spend a weekend in my favorite city! We'll be heading back for fashion week in a couple weeks, so stay tuned for more from New York veryyyy soon.

Hi Friends!

Today's post I'm doing something a little different - for one I'm wearing VINYL (what?!) and of course it's coming to you from NYC, where I've been for the past few weeks doing some work and play. Always both, right? I'm going to be spending a lot of time in New York for the next few months, dare I say *bi-coastal* even, so expect lots of content from New York now and in the near future. While I've been here, we've also celebrated 4 years of The Style Sauce, so happy birthday to us! Thank you to all who are reading this and for your continual support throughout the years. It's a celebration bbs!

Now, on to this look. Fun fact: I played soccer for 8 years in school, and I'm still a huge fan of the sport. So, I was obviously excited to hear about Yoox's #Yooxsoccercouture line - a collaboration with 14 different international designers. In partnership with Yoox, I decided to style Vivienne Westwood's design with this cute little red vinyl skirt, a pair of cream Nike air maxes, and a red fiddler cap - last season, so sorrryyyyy.

The look is a little edgy and a little sporty, but definitely a great look to stand out in New York City.

What do you think of it? Too much or just the right amount of extra? ;)
